Modern direct injection engines have significant performance benefits over older conventional engines. However, there is one drawback to this system in that over time the injected vaporised fuel leads to a steady and gradual build up of carbon deposits in the fuel intake system. This then has a detrimental effect on the efficiency and overall health of the engine.
